  The planned 1.5-mile portion of the greenway will be built along Toby Creek in northeast Charlotte. It will extend from University City Boulevard near Harris Boulevard across the western part of the UNC Charlotte campus before joining with Mallard Creek Greenway near North Tryon Street.

  The state DOT has closed McLean Road at Old Concord Road for intersection improvements. Those improvements include a dedicated left-turn lane4, construction of a 4-foot-wide concrete median, and a widened concrete railroad track crossing surface. Other minor changes also are being made.

  According to police, the robber entered the bank, in the 8500 block of University City Boulevard, about 10 a.m. and gave the teller a black bag with a note, demanding money. No customers were inside the bank at the time, and police say the bandit did not show a weapon.

• University City and N. Tryon St. Train-truck collision closes major road

  The wreck happened on a small road off University City Boulevard. The road leads to a Duke Energy substation on the east side of N.C. 49. The truck driver escaped serious injury in the collision, which happened around 8:10 a.m. The tractor trailer burst into flames, sending thick clouds of black smoke into the air.
