The University City Division covers approximately 46.8 square miles of north Mecklenburg County, and has an estimated population of 93,551. There are 76 officers, eight sergeants, one investigative technician and a captain assigned to the division.

  • 3700 block of Ottington Place Assault with a deadly weapon-with injury

    (2) B/M suspects forced entry into the victims residence and shot one of the occupants. The victim was transported to the hospital with NLT injuries. The suspects fled the area on foot.

  • 16200 block of Arlyn Circle Death investigation

    Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit Detectives are investigating a shooting at 1620 Arlyn Circle which has left one person dead. The shooting occurred at 11:30 p.m., on Thursday, November 19, 2009. The victim has been identified as Jonathan Ray Nelson, DOB: 7/3/1991. Mr. Nelson¿s family has been notified of his death. The CMPD has already issued a press release on this incident.

  • Eastfield Road / Prosperity Church Road Robbery from person—armed

    A delivery driver for a wholesale delivery company was robbed by two BM suspect armed with a firearm. They fled the area in a dark blue older model SUV, possibly a Chevy Blazer.

  • 11700 block of North Tryon Street Accident-fatality

    Officers are scene of a traffic fatality involving a pedestrian. Initial indications are that the pedestrian was walking in the middle of the road in an area where there is no cross walk and no close side streets. North Tryon Street will be closed from Pavillion Boulevard to the county line until further notice. The HITS Unit is on scene conducting the investigation.

  • Harris Blvd / Medical Plaza Dr Robbery from person—armed

    This incident occurred in the parking lot area of a Wachovia. A female was robbed by a BM suspect as she was attempting to make a deposit. The suspect is described as tall, wearing a black jacket and armed with a gun. The victim was not harmed during the robbery.

  • 10400 block of Mallard Creek Road Robbery from business—armed

    The Petro Express was robbed by a B/M suspect who fled the area on foot. No injuries.

  • 2600 block of West Sugar Creek Road Robbery from business—strong arm

    Wachovia was robbed by a BM suspect who fled the scene in a black Honda Civic. The suspect fled onto I-77 North. North Division officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the suspect refused to stop; CMPD officers then initiated a pursuit. Troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol eventually took the suspect into custody in Gaston County.

  • 5800 block of Prosperity Church Rd. Robbery from business—armed

    The Subway was robbed at gunpoint by two black males in all black both were 5'7' with a slim build. The suspects fled on foot.

    The Petro Express located at 10409 Mallard Creek Road was robbed by a B/M suspect armed with a handgun. The suspect fled the scene in a gold colored vehicle. No injuries.

    The Rite Aid Pharmacy was robbed at gunpoint by a black male, short, wearing a black mask and black pants. The suspect fled on foot. No injuries.

  • 9600 block of Willowglen Trail Death investigation

    University Div. Officers responding to a domestic call for service. Arriving officers located a female who had been shot, the victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic. The suspect is known, no arrest at this time. Homicide, CMPD Div. Officers responding, this investigation is ongoing.

  • 72400 block of Highland Creek Parkway Rape / sexual assault

    The victim's mother alleged that her young child was sexually assaulted by another young child, possibly while at school. Officers initiated an investigation, which will be followed up with by youth detectives and school law enforcement.

  • 6900 block of IBM Drive Bomb threat

    A bomb threat has been called in to Bright Horizons Daycare. The building has been evacuated and all of the children are safe and accounted for. The CFD is on scene as well assisting CMPD officers. Update at 12:30 p.m.: no suspicious devices or packages were found.

    A 20 year old male was found deceased of apparent natural causes. Homicide was notified per protocol.

    The victim were robbed at gunpoint by a black male suspect in a white tee shirt and jeans. The suspect stole the victim's Mitshibushi and fled the scene in it. No injuries.

  • 8900 block of J M Keynes Blvd. Robbery from business—armed

    The McDonalds was robbed at gunpoint by a black male suspect, black baseball hat, black hooded sweatshirt and a clear mask. The suspect fled the scene in a gold Ford Explorer that was occupied by three other black males. No injuries.

    Victim was walking on roadside when robbed by 4 H/Ms operating a small dark SUV. One suspect was armed with a handgun.

    (3) armed B/M suspects forced their way into an apartment and attempted to rob the residents. This incident is believed to be drug related. There were no injuries.

  • North Tryon Street Accident—personal Injury

    Victim was struck by a vehicle at the N. Tryon/ HWY 29 split. Medic is on scene. The victim is unresponsive, suffering from head and facial injuries. North Tryon is blocked at this time and all traffic is being diverted onto Rocky River Road. CFD and City Transit have been notified of traffic diversion.

    The Circle K was robbed by a black male suspect, gold jacket, red tee shirt, baseball hat and jeans. The suspect was armed with a box cutter. No injuries. The suspect fled on foot.

    University City Div. responded to the Drury Inn with Medic and CFD Ref: pediatric patient 3 months old that was possible in cardiac arrest, The child was transported to CMC University and pronounced on site. Homicide Sgt. Robbins was contacted/responding.

    The victim was walking into his apartment when 2 black male suspects approached him, pointed a gun at him, and took his car keys. The suspects drove away in his red Toyota Corolla.

  • 10300 block of Bolton Ct. Death—natural

    University Div. respopnded to Bolton Ct. in regards to a death investigation. The victim an 82YO male was found unresponsive by Medic, the victim was pronounced on scene. The victim was in poor health and suffered from several medical issues. The family Dr. will sign the death cert.

  • 500 block of Berkeley Hill Drive Death investigation

    18 yr old male found deceased in his kitchen. No apparent signs of foul play at this time. Homicide is responding to assist per protocol.

  • 3100 block of Ryan Jay Drive Robbery from person—armed

    The W/M victim arrived home and as he was approaching his apartment, 2 B/M suspects armed with weapons approached him on foot and took his wallet and cell phone and then fled on foot. Suspects: #1: B/M, 5'9", 200. #2: B/M. 6'0", 180. No injuries or shots fired.

  • 2300 block of E. W.T. Harris Blvd Accident-fatality

    The driver of a white dodge sebring lost control of his vehicle, crossed the center median area, and struck a large SUV travelling in the opposite direction. The driver of the Sebring was pronounced deceased on the scene. The occupants of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital with NLT injuries. HITS is investigating and will distribute a press release upon completion of the investigation.

  • 3300 block of Alderpoint Lane Domestic disturbance

    Male suspect assaulted his wife and child. Female and child ran to a neighbors house and it was thought that the suspect was inside his home with a weapon. A short time later it was determined that he had fled the scene in a 2002 Silver Acura. Minor injuries to the victims.

    Female victim reports being raped and pistol whipped somewhere in Charlotte last night. Report being taken at hospital. Actual location of occurrence is still unknown.
